Problem routing sanitary hose

I am installing a Jabsco manual head. The discharge fitting exits at about a 135 degree angle (it can swivel too). However, it is a very sharp turn and only about 6 inches up thru the bulkhead to the holding tank. Question: Is it advisable to add an elbow fitting in the hose to make a sharper bend? If so, what kind of fitting? (bronze, PVC...)

I did, using plastic I got from a hardware store (nylon maybe?) designed for sprinkler systems. I figure if it can live year round underground and deliver pressure water it should be ok on my boat. But it hasn't been in quite a year yet, so I can't vouch for it's longevity.
