All Nations: Any veterans sailing here?

It is Memorial Day here in the United States paying tribute to our veteran and service members of the Armed Forces.

So I was wondering how many veterans are on here, not just of the USA, but of all nations. We did our service for our nations and have assorted memories of our time in the services.

So from a Retired Navy Sailor... Have fair winds and following seas.

Coast Guard, active '74-'81, then 13 years weekend-warrior Reserve.

My Dad was Navy QM2 during WW2, North Atlantic mostly, on a Seaplane Tender. Fair winds, Dad, and well done.

Forgot to mention: 1958 to 1979 USN.
From Dominican blockage, Cuban missile crisis and a couple of years inland of Viet Nam. Yes the Russian missiles and medium bombers were in Cuba along with a couple of Russian Submarines of which we forced one to the surface. Isn't it fun to help make history....

With all due respect today is Memorial Day not Veterans Day. Today we honor those who gave their all while serving their country.

True enough Sail.
Even though he wasn't in the armed forces, I think my friend, classmate, occasional partner Sgt Rodney Gillis NYPD Emergency Service Unit qualifies. He had finished a midnight shift not quite ten years ago when an emergency call came in to Truck 8. Being a modest cheerful hero he jumped on and went to help. He was killed in the WTC saving others on the first day of the War on Terror. Some days I wish I'd been there to help, others I know then we'd both be dead.
