Incredible collision

Alinghi hit team extreme on the Istanbul Extreme series. I never saw anything as violent as this. Team Extreme boat was decommissioned. Big hole in the amas an probably other structural damage.

Looking at the behavior of the crewmember on the starboard ( aft ) amas, you wonder how long it was that they had no control, he looks like he was bracing for a impact at the begining of the video

Yes, that was really intense. They were overtaking a boat, had to go to port to pass at the bow of another boat and tried to dive to starboard to pass on the transom of another. They missed by a meter. The boat just dive the bow onto the water taking control power of the rudders and they have lost control by a moment... and that was enough...

Take a look at the cover of the Istanbul Extreme races made by Yachting News. Great images. We can also see how tight these guys race. It is really incredible. As one of the guys from other team was saying: it could just happen to someone. He just had no place to go
