Exclamation I am about to buy a Hallberg Rassy Rasmus, need some advice

Hello,
I am just about to buy a Hallberg Rassy Rasmus from 1976, in good condition, really well equiped. Price USD 70.000,-. It has been circumnavigating for more than 12 years. My question is: How much does this affect the structure, resistance, etc, of the vessel. Also, is the price fair?
Thanks, Carlos

I don't know much about the Rasmus as such but for sure HRs are fine boats.

OTOH, USD70.000 seems expensive.

Where are you? Is it VAT paid? A little more info and I can plug you into the right HR gang.

I sold my Rasmus last year (for a lot less than that, mind you). If you have any questions - ask, I'd be glad to answer.

There is a fellow in Michigan selling a well equipped rasmus for 39,000. Link below- Hope it helps. Rassys hold their value well but 70,000 is far to much in my opinion. Certainly to much for a ship thats being weathering the cruising lifestyle for 12 years...

FOR SALE: Hallberg-Rassy Rasmus - 35’ 1976 Ketch, Hull# 492 | For Sale - $39,900. Contact Rorke Miller - captainrorke@gmail.com - for info.

Well, it seems the general response is that price is too high. Thing is I am in Uruguay, South America, and it would cost me at least 20K to bring a vessel down here.
Brak, how do you think the general structure, etc. of this 1976 vessel can be affected?

Thanks in adnace,
Carlos

How does age and mileage affect the boat? It all depends on how it's been maintained. Don't buy the boat without a survey. Don't be afraid to walk away from the boat if the surveyed value is considerably less than the asking price. At $70k, one would hope the boat has a new engine, sails, spars, standing rigging, electrical systems, and teak decks (if applicable). For that price, it should look showroom new. Almost without exception though, all older boats will have some issues that need to be addressed. Once you take care of them, you can have a fine boat that should continue to fulfill it's original design brief for years to come. Read through this as well: http://www.sailnet.com/forums/boat-r...trip-tips.html
