Sailing from NJ - RI

Aloha
We're having our Sirens + Sailors summer tour from NJ to RI to visit our retail accounts selling our clothing brand Organik. I'm looking for suggestions/advice sailing from Pt Pleasant NJ to Newport RI. We're leaving for 1 week from NJ 8/8 and returning NJ 8/15 with a stop in Montauk NY on 8/12-13. We'd like to stop in NYC and Newport RI for 1 day each.
Our vessel is a 30' Catalina with 1 capt and 3 inexperienced deckhands.
How much should we budget for gas for our inboard engine, dock fees each night, etc.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

From Pt. Pleasant eh? Well I wish you luck and the best for your travel. Always nice to see a local out and about!

As for Gas I would say to always keep in mind in dead or just bad winds you'll want to most certainly have enough to get you through a day or so. Keep her full is what I tend to do no matter what. Never know when you'll be needing the engine. Since you know your destination I would also suggest searching around online. Maybe you can find different marines for the local. That could most certainly help budget / spread everything out in front of you.

Your gas budget is obviously going to depend on how much you run the engine, which presumably will depend on the amount of wind during your trip. Since you have a schedule, I would budget to run the engine at least 50% of the trip, probably more.

Dock fees will vary greatly. You may find some around $2.50 per foot, but expect closer to $5.00 per foot when you get to Newport. You could stay at Connanicut Marina in Jamestown (the island directly across from Newport harbor) and take their ferry to Newport for less, I believe. But do the math on their ferry fee, which I think is $10 or $11 per passenger. You might be better off with the higher slip fee and no ferry.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Brilliant, you get to go sailing for a month but deduct the trip as a business expense. Does you accountant let you deduct the whole boat or just this trip?
Oracle, Larry does it why not you.

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

Yeah, that's all good, Organik. But my comment was more about that fact that you've got more advertising in your signature than you have substance in your question. Looked like more of an excuse to post here than a serious query. If you are really asking, then your captain needs to get out a chart and do some calculations.

If just sailing/ motoring during the day averaging 5 knots. 1 day from Point Pleasent up the east River with the tide to Port Jefferson. 1 day Port Jefferson to Mystic, 1 day to Newport. We have done this trip many times. If you go Pt Pleasent to Montauk/ Block 16 hours then 8 to Newport

I have to agree with arf145...take all the advertisement out of your blog...it smacks of commercial spam.....ruling from the moderators?

I'm so glad to hear that others think this is a cleverly disguised ad posting. Pessimist that *I* am, I thought it was the old "and here's why the economy is in the crapper", with someone taking their staff offline for a full week to make 4 stops that could be covered in two or three days by Amtrak, bus, or car.
Willy Loman would turn apopleptic over taking a week to make so few sales calls. Cost of boat, salary, food, dockage, versus fuel or carbons saved...I dunno, I still vote for "that's why the economy is in the crapper".
And nonetheless, wish them luck. Especially with that schedule.
