Possible meet-up at Chesapeake City August 27

We had a nice dinner with Ulladh last week while he was en route to Cape May. During dinner he raised the possibility of another Delaware River/Chesapeake Bay meet-up at Chesapeake City, similar to what he organized last September.

I am posting this reluctantly because with so many family changes going on right now, it is possible that we would not make it to our own event. But here is what I am hoping to do, and would love it if others were interested in sailing in or driving in to meet us:

When: August 27, 2011
Where: Engineer's Cove on the C&D canal, where Chesapeake Inn is located
What to do: Lunch and/or dinner at Chesapeake Inn or another restaurant in town (we're open to suggestions)

We are looking at possibly sailing down the Delaware River Thursday or Friday (Aug. 25 or 26). If we do that, we would likely sail all the way through the canal first to explore some things in the upper Chesapeake, and hit this event on the way back. But everything is very tentative right now because of unpredictable things with our kids. At present it appears we may have our youngest (15) with us, though he may also need to stay home and we'd be just a couple.

Is there any interest from the rest of you in doing something that weekend?

I will plan on being in Chesapeake City August 27. I may be on my way up from the lower Delaware Bay.

Sounds good. Is your boat still in Cape May, or did you bring her back to Essington this weekend?

I had planned on starting my trip up to Essington yesterday, but early morning thunderstorms and my caution lead to delaying departure enough that I lost the favorable tide.

I may spend another week or two sailing the lower bay then move up to the Cohansey or Delaware City for a few weeks, before returning to Essington.

We've been away for awhile, but still hoping to head down the river on Aug. 25 or 26. Anyone interested in joining us? Ulladh?

I will be there on the 27th.

I have a meeting on the 25th then will sail down on the 26th.

Depart Essington about 10:30AM about 1 hr before high?
Low at Reedy Point is about 4:00PM
High at Chesapeake City 9:00PM

Next must check the current, but all looks favorable.

I did some spreadsheet modeling of the currents for the 25th, and it sure looks like it's a hopeless slog going directly into the canal from the Delaware. I'm thinking of sailing through Bulkhead shoal to Delaware City, take a 2-3 hour break for an early dinner to wait out the current, then motoring into/through the canal. I'll try to send you the spreadsheet so you can have a look.

Maybe for us. Janet gets back from a business trip on Thursday and we have a gallery opening on Friday but the current turns fair at West End around 1500L on Saturday so if the wind and weather are supportive we might give it a shot. South winds 15-20 would be especially nice.
