Sailnet BLOGS Taken off line

Due to some deficiencies in the underlying blog technology we have decided to take the Blogs down until we can replace them with more reliably Blog software that does not allow Spammers to clutter up the blogs.

This has been a problem since we started the blogs four years ago and we are in the midst of making some major updates to Sailnet along with some very exciting NEW Technology for the site and a new server and having to continually delete spam from the blogs was interfering with our progress.

We will have Blogs again, but not for at least 6 to 8 weeks and when they return they'll be better and not vulnerable to spammers and their useless spew.

Regards

Jeff J

Often something as simple renaming a variable in the forum submit to something else than the software default will put all the spam to an end.

Any change from the default will end most spam. Adding a box that says "type 123 here" works too.

Re: Sailnet BLOGS Taken off line

Is it just me, or is the site having technical problems? I'm getting a lot of dead-ends and blank screens. When I go to the root page, sailnet.com ... it forwards to a blank screen at Sailnet.com." - The world's largest online sailing community" ....

Re: Sailnet BLOGS Taken off line

Is there an appropriate forum or thread for me to introduce people to our existing blog?

If it's the blog in your signature, you let people know about it each time you post.

Re: Sailnet BLOGS Taken off line

I was just wondering if the blog feature is ever going to return as stated in the OP by the Administrator?

Re: Sailnet BLOGS Taken off line

As long as this thread is about technical issues. Is anyone else getting redirected to "filepost" when coming to sailnet?

As I understand it its bad code that embeds itself in the sites software?? Not really positive, I'm not much a computer guru.

Yes, I've seen that redirect to "Filepost" recently as well.
