1989 O'Day 302`

Recently purchased, but no throttle or speed control lever. Does anyone have a picture to show me what they look like and perhaps where I might buy the set.

Im pretty sure its an Edson pedistal/wheel on that boat. At least it was on our 322. Oday used plastic levers. Dont buy them. Get the metal ones. We couldnt get full throttle with the plastic handle because it flexed and hit the pedistal guard. The metal ones from Edson fixed that. Pricy though.

+1. We swapped ours out this off season. It obviously looks better, but the old plastic levers had some flex to them too. The new SS are more rigid and give us a better feel for the throttle. Got ours at Defender, but WM has them as well (definitely pricey).

Appreciate the help. Saw these, but wasn't sure how they would attach to the half inch pinch sticking out.

Did you get rid of the 302.....how did you like her?

Hey 48 -

If the '89 302 is new to you, get ready for a labor of love. Great boat with all the things that need to be fixed after 20+ years. And if the manual did not come with the boat, you can order one from the I Heart Oday site blt2ski mentioned above, well worth having.

Just a note.. the screw that threads through the shaft is a #10 32, hard to find

Ours was a 322 which was very similar to the 302, but the aft cabin was swapped. It was Starboard on our 322 but I believe the aft cabin is port on a 302.

We did like the boat but bought it as our first boat, more or less to see how we liked sailing. It was in good condition and we felt we could sail it a few seasons and get out of it without loosing much if sailing wasn't something we enjoyed. As it turned out, we like it a lot and since we spent nearly every weekend on the boat we soon decided AC was a must have along with refridgeration so we started a search which ended with us moving to a Catalina 36.

In my opinion the Oday three digit series boats were somewhat ahead of their time in the space they offered, are equal in build quality to the competition of the time and are pretty decent sailing boats. That said, I was never in love with the looks of the gray hulls and dark plexi.

Midlife -

If we all liked the same thing, wouldn't we all be driving white Ford F150's ?

After three years of polishing, cleaning and repair, my 302 is one of the prettiest girls on the dock and receives nothing but complements from fellow sailors who appreciate her heritage and the transformation.

And we all seem to be part of the same fraternity even though those Chevy and Dodge owners park their less attractive pick-up trucks next to my Ford.

Well I did buy one so obviously the other attributes trumped my view of the aesthetics.

I can pretty much say the same thing about my current boat, since if I was just buying what my eye liked, I'd probably have a Tartan 37 or Sabre 36, but my C36 has attributes that trump those boats great lines.
