Storm Weather Sailing Experience

Would this weekend be a good time for some coastal sailing at the mouth of the Chesapeake/Atlantic Ocean for some storm weather sailing practice?

I really need to learn handling rough weather.

I smell a troll. You can't be serious. If you are, then yes. You go right ahead. Let us know how it works out for you.

Personally, I think you would be a FOOL to attempt such a thing.

I really don't want to read about you in Monday's newspaper. :(

This person cannot be serious.

Seriously in need of a hobby that doesn't entail trolling in forums, I'd say

SailNovice 08-26-2011 05:31 PM

How are you supposed to get big weather experience??

carl762 08-26-2011 05:40 PM

I'd say, by taking gradual steps. Even in fair weather conditions, this hobby is still dangerous. Don't tempt fate.

I would go for it. Experience is the best teacher. I think the media is hyping this "Historical" event anyway. See if you can pass through the eye- might be cool. Be like tacking but no need to turn the boat. One note I see northern chesapeake is closed to recreational boat traffic due to storm- southern bay or atlantic your best bet.
Good Luck and fair winds

I have to ask:

What kind of boat do you have?

Tempest 08-26-2011 05:56 PM

Go for it....think of all the things you won't have to worry about:

Downed trees, power lines, cell phone towers, traffic jams, floods.....hell it might be the safest place in the Northeast....need crew?
