Shifting Shoals?

While bringing my boat from Toms River back to Lavallette, i pass under the bridge with a friend of mine and followed what use to be the channel but hmmn... no markers? i was thinking they removed them post irene so it was not a big concern. about 5 minutes later i feel the rudder kick up, but we were in the channel i assumed. i get the boat pole out and wow.. about 2 feet of water. i was around a notorious shoal off of West Point Island but it appeared that bar had extended well past the channel. about 10 minutes later i start seeing markers but it appears to be off to the west, while it normally followed relatively close to some islands the channel was almost in the middle of the bay. anyone else around me notice that as well?
