West Coast delivery, running the gauntlet...

Time for a break from my insane schedule so we are fixing to drive down to Frisco to pick up a Hudson force 50 and sail her back up to the yard. She's a bit rough in some spots but not too bad.

Overall:

Bad sprit:

I figure we can screw on some plates to hold that sprit together and only fly a yankee in light air. This thing has a big staysail that we can fly when it gets up to 30 knots (which it will).

All in all, a nice escape from my seven day a week two job bullshyte.

Here's a slideshow for those who wanna see more.

PassageWeather shows a 960mb Low spinning around in the Gulf of Alaska but we'll see if it stays there or not. I know we'll get 30+ off Mendicino, always do...

Very cool CC. Actually, that looks a lot like a Spindrift (the Bumfuzzle's boat). Are they from the same builder?

Sounds like it's gonna be a hell of a trip. How's the motor?

Dunno yet. It'll run and we'll polish the tanks before we leave or we won't leave... Ya don't screw around on this trip or it'll kill ya.

BTW, we'll be in Frisco for a couple of days mid week prepping to go so if anybody local wants to drop by for a view and a brew, please do. I'll know what marina she's in tomorrow.

Good luck on the run CC, hopefully it is a smooth one for you can get some nice pics of the passage. How much work will you have to do?

Looks like Benicia just east of the Carquinez Bridge. Which is just east of Vallejo. BEST WISHES on the nasty return trip.I found Oct a gentle month going north along the coast....i2f

In the wise?;) words of Captain Ron, "if anythings gonna go wrong, it'll go wrong out there" but, "if you get lost, just pull in somewhere and ask directions." :D

Have a good trip. It's got a NASTY reputation. Do you plan on staying close in and harbour hopping or heading out to deep water?

Look forward to your writeup of the trip. I'm interested in how that boat performs - I've always loved the looks of them - they fulfill any and all boyish pirate fantasies.

Good luck Charlie, hope the masts are in a lot better shape than the sprit. Looks like the forestay attaches just above all that rot too.

Charlie,

As you know, all uphill, but this is about the best time of year, overall. If you have time, a short trip out the Gate & back wouldn't hurt to see if there are any gremlins lurking about. Best of luck, I know I don't have to say "be carefull" Let us know how it goes.

I have mixed feelings looking at those pictures. OTOH, I am enthralled by what a beautiful vessel she could be. OTOH, I get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach looking at all the work that has to be done. Still, it will be an amazing vessel once it is finished.

Did someone buy it and is going to have you make all the repairs? If so, I hope they got it for a song, because the cost of repairs would be huge I imagine.

In one of the shots of the interior, it looks as if there had been a flooded bilge at one time. There seems to be a line of water damage in this photo. Am I wrong?
