Spike Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund Good news!

To all of you who contributed to Spike's Memorial Scholarship fund and especially the Smacker who brought the fund here I have good news.

We have the first recipient of the first scholarship. He is 28 year old Ismael Roman. He very much wants to be a merchant seaman. He is of Puertorican decent and a very nice young man. I spent the day with him Sunday and he apparently likes my cooking so he must be a man of taste. I think he is very much what Spike would have wanted.

I will keep you updated as to his progress. I have warned him that failure at this is not an option. A lot of sailors have contributed to what we hope is his success.
