His leaving Portsmouth just before a hurricane expecting to be able to outrun it shows very poor judgement. Not the type of guy who should be "out there" as he endangers everybody else. Why leave Portsmouth? There seems to be plenty of places to tie up even if he didn't want to be in a marina (although no marina would take him without insurance). Where would he go to avoid Irene?
I wouldn't give him money as that would simply encourage two irresponsible people with poor judgement.

I think the problem is that some folks took Captain Ron to be a documentary.

Not sure but sounds like this is the guy that got "caught on the outside".
Looked like a stupid move but as the Big Man said, Judge not lest you be judged.
Anyway looks like he and his partner lost their home.
What are the details for contributions.
Safe sailing

Ah, see now this is a fragmented posting, OP has more detail and a poll.
If like me you missed it have a look.
Safe sailing.

Boat that washed ashore during Irene destroyed in fire - WTKR
What is weird is that this must have happened last Saturday as it is still only 7:53PM here on the east coast on Sept. 10th.
Maybe I've been out of the loop.
