Rich doesnt mean smart..

The last overnight i did on the Barnegat Bay was beautiful. I anchored up as far as possible from a gorgeous 35 ft Carver and began taking care of getting the cockpit rainfly setup as there was light rain possible. Almost done and i notice the carver is gone. Now I am alone. I hear another engine rounding the cove at a medium pace followed by heavy reverse thrust. Thinking he had run aground I got on the VHF and asked if he needed assistance. Turns out that carver that I thought had left didnt. After some radio scuffle the truth came out.. He and his wife were watching a movie below decks and the deck lighting and ANCHOR light were causing a glare on the screen, so he shut them off. A moonless night with light rain almost ended in an insurance claim and possible injury..

Not sure I would define a 35 Carver owner as rich necessarily, but you're absolutely right. Ya can't fix stupid. Then again, since our fearless leader defines everyone who's not on welfare as "Rich", you just might be right.

OK, maybe not millionair rich, but enough to afford 125k at least. The thing that totaly struck me as nuts was his nonchalantness.. oh yeah, the lights were causing a glare on the tv so i shut them off... Are you kidding me??

Same nonchalance appears when they turn on the generator in an otherwise silent anchorage. Some just don't get it that others may not want to hear that or breathe the fumes all night.

With a boat like that, couldn't you afford to move the TV?

Perhaps not rich as many would define it, but definitely "well-off" as I see it... and none-too-bright from the sounds of things. TV glare is pretty low on my priority list compared to people being able to see & avoid my boat.

Maybe that $125K boat is all they have? Possibly it is on a loan too? You never know, although turning off the anchor doesn't equal smart, but what the man drives doesn't make him rich either........i2f

It is possible that $125K boat is all they have... it is, you'll have to admit, unlikely. Amusing the people that take offence at the guy being called rich compared to being called an idiot
