3rd times the charm. another single handed outing!

Wind was up today and I took the boat out. It wasn't as smooth as yesterday and I was moving much faster and handling bigger wind. I got turned around by the wind at the mooring but once I had the sails up it was awesome! Now that I am used to the boat heeling I almost can't get enough! When I felt it heel a bit and it picked up speed I got a huge grin on my face. Had some great jibes and tacks. I'm having a blast sailing! 3 singlehanded sails 3 days in a row! A month ago I had never sailed. Hoping to do some ocean sailing soon. All 3 of these sails were inside the harbor although I went all the way to the end of the harbor and could see the ocean!

When you feel the boat jump beneath you to accelerate, it's like a horse taking off into a gallop. Awesome, isn't it?

Congratulations! Stay safe.

Lol...Already realize that. It's fun but I wasn't doing radical angles.

Being a horseman, and a sailor... I dunno. Horses definitely have some thrust, and the speed pickup is the same, but darnit, the speed on the boat is quiet, and refined, my horse is a monster of a ride at a gallop, its hold on for dear life! hehehehe

Great post Newport... the closeness to open water causes my greenstreak to come out.. Very nice indeed. Proper respectful jealousness now! hehehe.

Totally depends on the horse. But maybe a comparison to the canter transition is better.

Nice! Speaking of horses, you have a very nice one for single handing, NN. Having a boat that performs well makes life at the helm much much easier.

Hm.... just looked at Newport Beach on Google Maps for the first time. Didn't realize how crowded the harbor was, and how close the ocean was.... I bet you're itching to get out there. When you do, make sure you get some videos and post them, for folks like me who have to travel for days to get to the ocean!

Newport Beach is an amazing place. More sailboats here than anywhere on the west coast? I think I read that somewhere. Distance to ocean it's all relative. My wife complains thy it's a whole 30 minute sail from the mooring. Lol.
