3 Rescued from Sailboat on LI Sound

Suffolk County Marine Police responded to a Mayday call from a sailboat at 7:20 pm. Officers responding from Shoreham arrived at the scene two miles north of Wildwood State Park to find the 30 foot Beneteau disabled and taking on water in short 5-6 foot seas. Three men, all in their late 20s, were safely rescued and taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson for treatment.

So, where do we send our money for this one?

These morons should have stuck to playing video games... Boggles the mind, that anyone could make it to almost 30 years old, and still be "unaware the weather could change so quickly"... Not to mention, the forecast here along the Jersey shore was calling for gusts to 40 yesterday and last night...

Anyway, looks like someone else needs another boat - are we all gonna agree to "take the high road", this time? (grin)

Funny, none of the guys pictured looks like a 'Jong' - yes, I'd assume that might be an Asian name. Perhaps that was his nickname and his real name is Tony or even John G.
'Solano' - not so Asian sounding.
Figures it is a bunch of young (< 30 yo) city guys who think they are invincible who apparently did not hear or heed the VHF WX channel. The LI Sound is considered protected waters but it can get pretty nasty in gale conditions. Even the NOAA NWS website showed the gale warning.
They are all quite young in the scheme of things and should be able to earn enough money to buy another boat or even pay to salvage the one on the beach at Mattituck.
