SIMRAD TP1600 tiller pilot rating?

Does anyone know what size and displacement boat that a Simrad TP1600 is rated for?

I can easily find the user/owner manual online, but it's written for the 1600 & 2500, and it only states that the 2500 is good up to 14 meter boats. It doesn't mention the limitations of the 1600 at all.

I don't want to just assume that the 1600 is rated to handle the same loads as the new TP10.

The stated difference between the 1600 and 2500 "is in the linear drive mechanism, the latter being an extremely high efficiency recirculating ballscrew, offereing greater thrust and faster actuator travel from lock to lock." That doesn't clear things up, so I can see where you'd be confused.

My personal experience is with an Autohelm ST1000 on my ~8000lbs 28 footer. I would think the TP1600 should handle your P30 in calm to moderate conditions. I've found that if there's heavy air (above say 18kts) or lumpy/rolly seas, my Autohelm works too hard for my comfort. I suspect if your P30 is trimmed correctly and it's a nice day, go for it! If it's snotty, I'd keep the tiller in the skipper's hand.

That's helpful. That's pretty much how I'd use it.

Bubblehead, Have you had a chance to use the 1600 yet? The Cat25 I just purchase has one. I was looking at a tp10, but if the 1600 works well, it saves me $400 and the install.
