Introducing myself

Hey guys,

I've been reading this forum for probably a good couple months and finally decided to join. I've been sailing for approximately 15 years, and plan to do so for the rest of my life. I get out every chance I have, just to escape the hustle and bustle! I've learned a lot on this forum and I plan on visiting every chance I get.

I am also going to shamelessly plug an old friends, sons, website to help him out. Check out what this kid is doing - he's going to sail 16000km for juvenile diabetes! Keegan Taberner's Sail for Juvenile Diabetes - Home

Thanks,
Jon

Not to be too much of a grump but...

Donating to diabetes research is a great idea. I would suggest however that anyone interested simply give money to those "handful of organizations" directly.

Keegan states that out of the money raised, "a small portion will be used on the trip". Well, many of your know what it costs to purchase a boat, outfit it for bluewater cruising, and pay the expenses along the way. It appears to me that Keegan is planning on using the money raised to pay for this.

If you want to support diabetes research, send it directly to organizations that you have vetted yourself. If you want to give money to a nice kid so he can have an adventure, then that is an entirely different deal all together.

Dave

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride. Most of us only believe half of what is posted, but we get to choose which half to believe. I could be wrong.
