Any must-sees in D.C.?

I'll be in Washington, D.C. on business from Nov. 2-4. Are there any places a sailor should see while I'm there? Any marinas/docks to walk around? Any good pubs? I may or may not have a car, but if I do I'll probably make a trip over to Annapolis. But what about right in D.C.?

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

The Smithsonian is pretty cool too.

Yes, regarding the Smithsonian, the National Museum of the American Indian is great, especially its cafeteria. I often have lunch there regardless of where I'm visiting in the city.

We also enjoy the International Spy Museum, the Vietnam Vets Memorial as already mentioned and the Air and Space Museum. Keep in mind that the spy museum isn't part of the Smithsonian, and therefore isn't free.

Anything along the "Mall" Smithsonian, War memorials, Wash Monument.. etc. If you are in the Alexandria area there are lots of nice shops and resturants along the river, and if you have a car Mt Vernon isn't very far.

There are water taxis available as well to Mt. Vernon, Georgetown, Alexandria or National Harbor.

I agree with previous posters - Air and Space and the Vietnam Memorial which is quite remarkably moving.

I will let the Director and Exec Chef know of your comments as they are part of the region I supervise. The menu is true American Indian rooted. The American Indian Mitsitam Cafe is a special place to eat. The Exec Chef Ricard Hetzler actually has a recipie book published which is quite impressive of its menu items

What to visit: Capitol Visiors Center for the free 70 minute IMAX presentation, Any of the Smithsonians...National Archives All along the mall), Bureau of Engraving...see th pallets of $20 bills.....Vietnam..Jefferson, and Lincoln Memorials memorials. These are the standard places. I would get the circle bus pass which stops at all these sites and also Arlington Cemetray to watch the changing of the gaurd over the unknown soldier.

My favorites off ther beaten track... Fords Theater where lincoln was assasinated has a great museum in it basement about the whole conspiracy. The Chorcrane Art museum ( the best in DC) and the Spy mesueum.

Feel free to PM me as I manage the restaurants at the Capitol Building and aslo some of the museums and can give you some other insights.

Dave
