Helped wanted pleaseeee :)

Hey, my names Chloe. I'm currently in my second year at Plymouth University studying Product Design. Our current project is to design a electronic device thats viable, feasible and desirable.

I am interested in designing something for the marine industry [as my dad has a Westerly] and my initial idea at the moment is to design a unit that could be fitted to the deck of a boat incorporating AIS, and man overboard tags with live tracking - for when a crew member falls over board an alarm is set off but unlike other devices out there every few minutes it sends out a their position making it easier to rescue.

I am interested in some feedback of this idea, would this be something anyone would be interested in? Or is there anything people would like in a single unit? Any feedback would be appreciated

Thank you for your time. Chloe

PLB's have a 121.5MHz signal for homing in. It might be interesting to develop a receiver for these devices. The problem is sailors generally sail alone and a device on the boat will not be of much help.

A device that will stop the boat (even with sails up) will be more interesting. But the problem is more mechanical than electronic.

Thats an interesting angle. My dad often goes out alone. What if it was able to link in with the boats auto helm?

My boat winters in the water in New England....I'm also away from my boat weeks at a time...how about something one could call from a cell phone and get some basic info like bilge status: water level, temperature.....I know some have installed webcams,...but I,m thinking something dead simple to use low tech (for dummies like me)

Anything that helps get a person out of the water quicker in an emergency situation is a good idea, roll with it. Incorperating it in with the auto helm could also be good in single handed case could also be interesting only to stop the boat with sails up the boat needs to point directly into the wind to stall,.,or mabey get it to do 360s good luck and a good idea
