How do you guys find ACCURATE wind conditions?

I am looking for ACCURATE wind conditions of a very particular place. I have looked on the iPhone for apps and online and I see very general and often WRONG information. Like yesterday it said the harbor should have 13 knot winds with 21 knot gusts. I think it was more like 5 knot winds.

SailFlow.com - xt_Atl_NY,NJ Wind Data works fairly well at least here in the northwest
here we also have the BIS Portal
do a web search you may have something like bis there

The problem is that God did not read the weather report...God does not have an iPhone.

To imagine that the report is accurate to the nearest 10 knots is just naive and has something to do with you thinking that your iPhone as a place in seamanship.

The best way to find accurate conditions is to setup a wind vane:

Lots of easy online weather kits that pipe the data right out on the internet for you.

looking for current conditions, NOT forecasting. Seems simple...

Forecasts tend to represent a statistical average based on interpretation of current and historic data. The larger the data sample and the larger the forecast area the higher accuracy probability.

So, assemble as much available information; TV and radio stations, National Weather Service, buoy data and your own past experience in your home waters then make a somewhat educated guess. But keep watching the sky.

From reading the condolence comments about him, I thought God not only HAS an iPhone, he DESIGNED it.

Does the place you dock your boat have a weather station? I have 2 on my lake and it all depends on the direction of the wind as to which is more accurate. Can you find condition information off of buoys? I know there are folks that use that data too. Ask the locals what they use or do they just wing it?
