Vanguard 15 mast step misery

Hello All: I'm having a miserable time trying to step the mast on a Vanguard 15even with another person helping. It's a nasty balancing act, trying to get that forked mast base onto that small pin. Pretty scary sometimes. There's got to be a better way or better hardware for a mast step. I saw a video where ONE person EASILY stepped a mast on his JY14 ... simply fit the mast into a USER FRIENDLY mast step and lifted it up while keeping tension on the forestay. Any opinions as to the feasibility of replacing the Vanguard 15 mast step with a JY14 step and, of course, somehow adapting the base of the V15's mast with the appropriate JY14 fitting?
