MedSailor is on a distinguished road
Coooooooooo-ee! TDW are you there?

Oui! Fuzzy!

The crew of Fairhaven have been more and more seriously contemplating a more westerly course for our planned extended voyage. We're now planning on circumnavigating Australia, a county where I spent many of my formative years.

I was trying, unsuccessfully, to find your thread from your passage southwest across the pond. Can you link it for me?

I've found 2 blogs of people who sailed 'round. Do you have any links to other blogs, books etc for going round Oz? What about cruising/planning guides I could pick up now for planning?

Any particular fuzzy wisdom for the crossing or going 'round?

Cheers!

Sorry mate but this went straight through to the keeper (as we say down here.) When are you thinking of doing this ? I'm going to do some research and see what I can find out but in the meantime what were the two blogs
you found and what route are you planning ? I'm gueesing that coming from over there you'd enter Oz Gold Coastish, cruise north then across the top and onwards. The reverse definitely does not make sense given prevailing winds. Of course you'll have to watch out for the cyclone season up north, both east and west coast and be prepared to get a decent snotting when you cross the Bight.

Now ... the reason you haven't found the thread re my voyage across the Pacific is that I've never done it. The man to speak to is SimonV and I'm thinking you might have got us confused. Do a search of Simons posts. He sailed his 39'er from San Fran to Oz single handed. A great yarn.

As for Oz cruising guides I'll put together a list and then we'll see what the others from this neck of the woods think. Ilenart is probably the WestOz expert, StAnna the man for Queensland, bit thin on the ground for Tasmania and South Australia, Hartley18 for Victoria though you'll probably not go there. No offence mmeant but for mine I'd go south of Tassie and up the east coast rather than through the strait. (Bass Strait i.e.)

cheers

Andrew
