I would like to buy old sails

Hi, I live in Galveston, Tx and am looking for old sails to make bags out of. I can pay for shipping or if anybody can tell me where to go in the Houston Area to find some, I will happily do so.

Thanks!

Atlantic Sail Traders has what they call "decorative sails" for sale which are ones that are no longer usable.

I’ve got an old mainsail (60 ft luff and 20 ft foot, made of 10 oz dacron) in the garage. You can have it, if you pay the shipping (~125 pounds, 5 ft x 4 x 2 ft).

I might be able to grab some tired J24 sails from my sailing club. Are you making bags for yourself or as part of a business?

ilse, try walking the docks or putting up some notes in YCs on racing nights. Someone always will have torn sails, sails they're mad at, sails that are about to be trashed. Maybe free, maybe cheap, maybe trade for a bottle at the bar. And save the shipping.

For some good free PR--you might also try paying them by giving them one piece of the new gear you're making. Someone will ask "Where'd you get that" and when they explain...you've got another sale. Especially if there's a label with your phone/email contacts in the bag.

I am so grateful for all the replies. I am just starting out and want to see if I can make a go of making bags to sell.
