Pick Up Points - Morgan 33 OI

For me, winterizing is like burying an old friend. It's something I hate to do. I purchased that Morgan 33 OI last winter, and it's time to winterize the boat. It will be coming out of the water in two weeks, but I have no idea where the best pickup points for the travel lift are. Any and all information on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Gary

If not marked I believe that you're more than safe using the proximity of the bulkheads as a good point to lift, noting where the prop shaft is and any other items that would be compromised such as a false keel like on the aft edge of my keel.

Its been a while since I have seen my friends OI 33 out of the water so sorry but I don't know anything specific. This drawling should help?

Thanks Shawn, the drawings were just what I needed for the marina to do the job safely.

We lived aboard our Morgan OI 33 for 13 years before moving to our OI 41 because our children were growing. We always had our lift straps placed just forward of the mast (at the limit of the travelift access with the forestay off or slack, depending on the size of the lift) and at the forward end of the cockpit. My concern would be having the boat out of the water in hard freezes with the risk of freezing water expanding in locations where it might have seeped within the balsa deck core or at the hull deck joint for those Out Islands with this joint placed under the rub rail instead of at the toe rail. Of course, I'm a warm water cruiser and I may have unreasonable concerns about frozen water. Just like people from the north come down here and have unreasonable fears of alligators. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

Right about now I would love to see weather warm enough for gators. We had a couple inches of snow here last week. Temperatures climbed back into the low 60s today, but nights are downright cold.

I had the deck core drilled and filled this past spring, and I've been checking it every couple weeks since for water intrusion, but so far no moisture readings on the hydro-meter. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.

Thanks for the lift point tips--I'll be sure to pass them on to the guy running the travel lift. The life is rated at 30,000 pounds, and from what I've been able to determine, the boat tips the scales as 12,500 pounds. Inside the anchor locker there's a plate that says 12,000 so I guess the 30,000-pound lift should be adequate.

Thanks again,

Gary
