Lake Austin?

Hey!

Any Austin, TX sailors here who have launched their boat in Lake Austin? I have a Catalina 22 and I was thinking of trying to put her in at Walsh boat landing since the drought is draining Lake Travis and NO boat ramps are open any more. I don't see much about sailing in Lake Austin but now that party boat season is over maybe it's fun to cruise there.

Cheers!

I sail Travis on a C27. Luckily we're in a slip. And you're right, the water level makes me cry.

I've done a lot of wakeboarding on Austin - and I don't think it's a very good lake for sailing. Way too sheltered by the cliffs. But you could probably do a little puttering around near the dam on a C22.

If you have a truck (or access to one), you can launch off the beach at Dink Pearson Park at Point Venture on Lake Travis.

Having 4x4 is even better. My sister lives close to the park and I've watched many people stuck there trying to launch/retrieve their boats.

There are a few lowish power lines and such over Lake Austin. Since its basically just a river there isn't a lot of room on it for sailing in my opinion.

I moved out near lake travis last year so I would have easier access to the lake/boat. The sad thing is I only had my boat in the water once this season..

Maybe Smack would be kind enough to take us poor trailer sailors out on his boat since we have zero lake access now
