I'd like to think that laws and regulations regarding this matter could be enforced. However, law enforcement is understaffed on the waterways and certainly has bigger fish to fry than wake-makers.

My purpose for this thread was to bring a small problem to the attention of the larger boating community at large. Sometimes, social pressure can do more good than the threat of fines or loss of privileges. If we ask marinas where we keep our boats to post notices (in the place where they will be read - above the urinals) regarding the possible consequences - and make it personal.

For instance: "What if it were YOUR mother who fell and broke her hip because of someone thoughtless enough to generate a wake next to an anchored boat?" Or get a little civic pride involved - "Do you want people to think that everyone from (Insert your state, town, county, locale) has no manners?"

Maybe a little social pressure will help at least a few individuals to be more mannerly.

Probably not.

When we moved my son's boat from HHI to Charleston, it was the mega powerboats that seemed the least considerate with wake and how close they would come. Had no problem with fishermen, just had to watch for their crab pots :-) Always a bad apple somewhere, although I've yet to meet one in the sailing community while on the water :-)

I noticed there was an outfit selling brass cannons at the Annapolis show this year. Maybe we should mount one on the foredeck.

I don't like your tone blaming S. Carolinians for the act of an ass-clown individual probably not even from here. Come on, it's N.M. Beach. Do you have some sort of repressed anti-south chip on the shoulder? I'm just sayin'.

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

When I'm King of the World, there will be no planing hulls.
