Shipwreck in Grand Cayman

Fortunately no one hurt. Lots of local speculation here as to the cause - navigational aids not lighted or out of position, etc. I know from my own experience that the channels are not accurately marked on my own plotters. I've set independent waypoints.

Sux!

I hope they find the fuel tank and that there's no damage to the reef there.

About 12 years ago I went out to look for a big hammerhead just outside the reef. We didn't find the hammerhead but did find a couple of nurse sharks and a few reef sharks. Beautiful.

The tarpon were pretty spectacular up there too if I remember. Of course the stingrays are what everyone goes to see. Pretty cool hand-feeding those cuddly creatures.

Sounds like they approached at night and trusted the plotter and markers...

A sure recipe for disaster!

I wonder if the two aboard where delivery captain/crew or the owners? Another great example of the perils of navigating at night in unknown waters. Sometimes these big boats give people a false sense of safety, imho.
