Puerto Montt to Cape Town Preparations

We are still in Puerto Mont, and still preparing to continue south through Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, Falklands, South Georgia and on to Cape Town. I have just posted a new blog entry describing the mundane particulars of Anticipating a Four-Month Trip through some of the planet's remoter regions.

I read it today Seq. Great stuff. I'm really enjoying it.

Sorry about the batteries...and all the trouble you're having because of the fit out company.

sequitur,

my boat is in Puerto Montt right now, though i am back in the States refilling the kitty. I am at Oxxean, where are you?

i am flying down on Christmas day to prep and head the other way, for New Zealand. we cruised patagonia and tierra del fuego for over three months on our way here. sensory overload at every turn! still toying with the idea of heading back down the channels to ushuaia and then back up to Golfo de Penas and outside from there to Rapa Nui. some friends of ours took that route last year and it worked out well.

i'm sure you have it but the [I]Italian Guide[I] was indespensible. when do you depart? will our paths cross?

Jesse

We're at Club Nautico Reloncavi, about 300 metres south of you.

Sounds like a nice plan.

Yes, we have the Italian Guide... wonderful so far. We're hoping to be away from here as soon as our mast and steel work is completed. Hopefully middle of next week. We're thinking of a rather dawdling and meandering gunkhole on our way down to the Horn, six or eight weeks. So, if you head south again, you will very likely catch-up with us south of Penas.

Jon,
Thank you for your superbly illustrated response. We have been dreaming of South Georgia for a long time now.
