Need to know! 1972 Catalina Fin Keel - Is it lead? Thanks!

I am junking a 1972 Catalina 22 and need to know if the keel is lead or the disposal guy wont take it. Is there anyone that know if a 1972 Catalina pop top fin keel is lead? The serial number is K63. If anyone knows how to find out please reply. Thanks!

Iron, about 700#. You can sell it for scrap.

bummer, now what can i do with it? i don't have a trailer to take it to the dump.

Rent a truck and take it to a scrap yard. When I disposed of ferrous scrap this summer I got $.12/lb. That's $84 for 700 lbs. A truck is less than $20 at Home Depot or Lowes.

Don't put it the municipal waste stream. Locally the municipality would pay $30 in tipping fees to dispose of this valuable resource if was mixed in the waste stream.

thanks. i have a truck but i don't have a trailer to pull the fin keel boat out of the water. thanks.

Your initial inquiry was unclear. I believe you meant the disposal guy won't take the boat unless the keel is lead. If the keel was lead the scrap value would have been about $800 vs. $80 for iron.
