Re: L&A Has Been Sold

as I understand it, that mag was sold. The new people put out one or 2 issues and then closed the doors. some of the original owners were not paid , employees were not paid, advertisers got nothing for their money. the whole mess is going to end up in the courts. IN the meantime Bob and Jody have started a new magazine i believe it is called cruising outpost or sailing outpost one or the other.

Re: L&A Has Been Sold

Bummer! I used to buy it once in a while when I was at West Marine but never subscribed. I'm sure the advertisers that had prepaid and subscribers will only end up with pennies on the dollar if it goes to court.

Somebody did buy the magazine, then allegedly extracted as much cash as they could from the business before closing it down. Look up "Lats & Atts magazine shuts down" on Google (or click here) for more details.

What's also gone is Living Aboard magazine - which L&A bought last year - and the website and forum.

Re: L&A Has Been Sold

It almost seems as though many of the paper and magazine businesses are struggling because so much information is now available on line. I no longer subscribe to the paper....just read it online when I want. Many of the magazines I subscribe to often sit for months before I get to reading them and then if there is info I want to save I either have to figure out how to store the magazine or cut out the articles.
When I need info ....mostly I google it or search forums for it. Much faster than trying to locate the article I read who knows how long ago.
I do enjoy paper though...love the feel of a real book or magazine. Transition is always hard I suppose.

Re: L&A Has Been Sold

This is wherew I think GOB and WoodenBoat have got it very right- use the web presence as an adjunct or an enhancement to the printed copy, not a replacement for it.
tdw and mitiempo like this.

Cruising Outpost

From the "about us" section of the web site: "The core group that brought you Latitudes & Attitudes is back again (what else would we do?), bringing you the latest and greatest source of all things Cruising and Adventure Voyaging. Our core values have not changed."
