Hi Folks, Do any of you have any information on sailing the southeast panhandle of Alaska? I have read a few archived posts and did see one nice travel log. I would be interested in any info or stories from any who have been to the Greatland. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have started a mid-life thing with the idea of sailing and perhaps make some money at the same time. Tourists or divers or whatever I can bring in. Live aboard and custom charter. Think that would work? Southeast is so very pretty and I would guess fairly good sailing. I see a couple of charters that go up from Washington. Are there many sail boats around Juneau? Thanks Tom

Tom,
good morning, at least its morning here 0820, to answer a couple of question, Yes there are a few sailboats in and around juneau. However there aren''t many charters for sailing in this area, mostly because Juneau is a cruise ship stop and most people who come here to juneau are only in town for 6 to 8 hours, so their time is limited if you were to charter you would have to advertise on the net and bring your own people in. It is a great place to sail, but a lot of the time is spent under power. Within a 100 miles or so of Juneau there are lots of things to see , i.e. glaciers, whales, eagles, bears, and hot springs. I have worked on whale watching boats for about 2 yrs, on and off for about 4 years, thats one of the best jobs i''ve ever had. There are lots of humpback whales in se waters, also killer whales, stellar sea lions and harbor seals. if you have any specific question ask and i''ll reply, if i don''t know i''ll make up something.

good sailing

reality captain
Mark
