Buehler Designed 35' Juno

I've read a bit about Buehler Designs over the years.

Cons: heavy, slow, tender, 'salty lines/ugly profile', amateur built out of non traditional materials/techniques

Pros: often overbuilt and therefore very solid, comfortable live aboard, forgiving, greasy weather capable, affordable

I came across this posting for for a 35' Juno (built '04, launched '06) - owner disclosed some minor rot issues, the sampson post having failed and the cabin/deck intersection needing some routing and restoration, as well as being ready for paint.

35' Juno cutter

I have a more detailed pdf file from the owner - the interior looks nice and is roomy.

Overall, it seems to have some nice outfitting/equipment (new Yanmar 60 HRS/38 HP, New Force Heater, etc), but I wanted to get some thoughts of those of you with knowledge and experience with Buehler's.

That will be hard to find. Try a google search to see if there is a forum for Beuhler boats. I've been on the WoodenBoat Forum for years, and don't remember much discussion of them there. You might go and try a search there too. Don't be dismayed that many sailors on both forums will be dismissive about those boats. Do your research, take a test sail, examine her carefully. Find someone with wood boat experience to help your initial look through. The price he's asking wouldn't buy the sails or the motor, but you'd find the boat hard to sell too, so be sure that she's what you want and need. Good luck.

Thanks, I appreciate your advice.

I think any boat built by individuals from plans will require more "in person inspection" rather
than "internet retrospection". A 5-6year old boat with rot any where is setting off an alarm
to me...but I'm not the guy in the market for it. At the very, very least, she demands a
detailed survey done by a licensed professional.

The early rot problems caught my eye as well, and had me wondering 'what else, where else'.

A surveyor is an absolute must on any boat I might get.

The owner was nice, very upfront, says the price reflects one of those times in life that has happened, and he needs to sell it - which I can sympathize with.

Thanks
