Congrats! I have a 73 E27 and love it . . . if you haven't found it yet ericsonyachts.org is a great resource. They know everything there is to know about Ericsons and a very friendly group.

Do yourselves a favour and pick up a copy of Casey's 'This Old Boat'. I consider it the best DIY guide available. Informative and inspirational. Many jobs on boats call for rather specific techniques and materials. Avoid having to do things twice by doing them right the first time. Plexi and acryllic ports need the correct silicone bedding, some chemicals in Sikkaflex, for example will react with the plastic and cause crazing. I learned the hard way.

Congrats. One of the boats I'm looking at buying.

Re: Got Our First Sailboat!

Congrats on the boat! We just bought our 2nd boat a couple of months ago (Irwin 30'). We moved up from a Cal 20 we bought and kept up in the Northern Neck of VA. Had a blast with it but the drive up was getting old as was the condition of the old 1964 Cal and we let it go. But we love the Irwin.

We too have a son that we introduced to sailing and is now 8 and hates to leave the boat to come home. I am doing the ICW next Spring (hopefully) and he insists to do at least a week of it with me. And my wife captains it nearly as much as I do (can't wait to see the comments on that one!).

Enjoy her and teach the little one as much as can be absorbed (start with line/rope handling). Fair winds and following seas.........
