Visa enquiry - South African

Hi, I am a South african citizen who has some sailing experience, and will be doing some RYA courses next month. I would like to travel to the med and florida eventually, and was wondering if there were any South Africans out there who could give me any information/advice about obtaining schengen and or b1/b2 visas?

Also, the RYA sailing school I am using in Cape Town claims that they can assist with obtaining these visas... does anyone know if this is true?
