6 months of smooth sailing...

Just updated the blog with a few more pics and a quick video.

http://www.cuajota.com

I am really enjoying the ability to sail year round. It's interesting to wake up and look at the weather. Does everyone do that? Still looking for more accurate and reliable wind forecasts but I'll find it. 6 months ago I had no idea I would be getting into sailing at all. Not even a thought of it. This boat came into my lap and now I am truly hooked. It's been amazing to learn to sail and to now be competent enough to singlehanded in the pacific. I am going to plan a bareboat charter in the Caribbean for my vacation this year. Thanks everyone for the advice and knowledge!

I was planning on sailing year round this year, we have many days throught the winter months that would allow us to get out, but i decided to undertake a v-berth rehab and rerig the boat with new chainplates and standing rigging.
I am posting on plasticclassicsforum.com about it.

Reliable weather forcast.......Good Luck! Our weathermen here couldn't tell you what the weather was yesterday!

Way to go Newport... your story has been one of the good ones this year.. It's been fun to see your comfort level grow with experience. Keep it up!

Take a look at SailFlow.com and/or Passageweather.com.

Its coming! lol....she just needs to get out on those smooth days...I am finding those are the norm not the 3-5 foot choppy waves that we went out in.

Newport,

Your weblog is a delight to read.

Yes - sailors do think about weather obessively

Significant Other - one way to get here more energized about joining you is to have her do some driving. First have her sail on easy (beam reaches) - it might take time and patience, but she'll get hooked the same way you have been.

If she isn't the type to take direction from her Man, sign her up for the Women's Sailing Convention on Feb 4th WSSCYA Home Page
150+ women sailing and having fun for 3 days. Very solid event.

what did you ever do with that Jib question ?

Thank WDS,
The blog is a FUN aspect of this...its nice to share with the world what I am doing. The jib was taped and I am just using it as is...I'll probably be getting a NEW one in a month or so...unless I find a really nice used one...

Pretty boat! By the way, I am sharing the same challenges with encouraging my wife to enjoy sailing as much as I do - not an easy task.
