hand bearing Weems & Plath compass (hockey puck), and the book "longitude" about the contest to create an accurate chronometer for the British Admiralty. From what i gleaned so far, the guy was a self taught clockmaker and worked on the problem for 40 years. The grand prize: 20,000 pounds. In that day, a king's ransom!. worth it to keep the ships from getting lost with precious cargo.....and best....gift certs toward a new mainsail!!!!!
