Bruce Roberts 65 surfing at 20 knots near Cape Mendocino

Here is a video of a Bruce Roberts surfing just south of Cape Mendocino. I only caught a snippit of the day. The waves got up to 12-14 + and we hit a max speed of 20.3 knots.

Great video...would love to have seen a shot aloft of sail,
running at that speed impressive considering no jib flying, boom centered...or no sail at all??
In any case great video of capable boat ...just another day at the office off cape Mendocino.

Sail not we did. We are running two 100 horsepower turbo diesels! The rig was new and not tuned, plus the crew were good seamen, but not sailors. So is was just a fun little sleigh ride.

Gold,

Great video, here are this morning's conditions:

Northern California NOAA/CDIP Buoy Data

16.2 feet and more to come. We have been waiting for it to lay down so we can go crab fishing out of Fort Bragg. Looks like we have a bit of a wait.

Gold, & all,

I was looking at some of your other videos and it seems like the seas are not as big as they are in real life? We have taken a lot of videos in rough conditions and when watching them afterword's we always comment that it was rougher than what it looks like in the video. The video seems like it losses something? What can be done to make them more realistic?

One of these days I'm going to experiment with taping a small piece of thin gauze, or something similar, over the mike of my video recorder to see if I can get rid of that omnipresent wind noise. Professional mikes do it with a thin foam wrap, like earplug covers over the mike. I'm tired of taking cruise video that's distorted by the crackling of wind over a bare recorder.

That being said, you know waves are big when they look big in the video. Looked like a serious fun ride on a well-found boat!
