a word about sears. a couple nights ago the intake manifold fitting for my heater hose broke. i was screwed! luckily i was at an advance auto that happened to be 1/4 mile from a sears. the broken fitting needed to be easy outted out of the hole. no prob, run over to sears an get one, right?
when i entered the store, there was no one in the ever shrinking tool section to help me. when i found someone, they had to ask nearly every employee before finding someone that knew anything about tools.
and wouldnt you know it, he had never heard of an easy out! i bet if i were looking for a new sewing machine, cheap jewelry or a television, i could have received first rate service.
as i disgustedly exited the store i couldnt help but think "no wonder sears is closing their stores".
craftsman tools WAS sears bread and butter. their return policy is a joke now. what happened?
i was in luck. yet another 1/4 mile away was an ace hardware! upon entering the store i was greeted and directed to the tool section by an employee that knew what an easy out is!
now this ace also sells craftsman tools. and you probably guessed that my easy outs were not found in that section.
it depresses me. the things that served the generations before us so well, are all but gone now. and whats left is an insult to the memory of the tradition that was once known as CRAFTSMAN.
