Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Just to be clear, I really like catamarans as cruising vessels. Lots of room, great stability, relatively low draft, less motion at sea and especially at anchor, nice platform for swimming, getting onto the dinghy, etc. And, there are certain times where the sailing can be pretty fun ie that video of the St. Francis 50 doing 20 knots in the south pacific while the family lounges about. Cats seem to offer lots of advantages to the cruising family.

However, nothing compares to the magic, grace and sheer glory that is sailing a monohull. Cats just don't compare in that regard. As Jack says, the motion is just not as fun.

Both can be very safe. In the worst of weather, a good sound cat with a Jordan series drogue might have the advantage, but that is certainly debatable.

Neat post,

Oh, Roger Whittaker rocks, no question.

It was the unexpected appearance of the music, quietly drifting slowly into the room, and his song, a song I've not heard in decades.

The music just started drifting out of my laptop speakers, but sounded like it was coming from elsewhere in the room.

I'd been alone in the house for days, and I was like, 'WTF! Radio? TV? Where's that coming from? Who started playing that? Why that song? How do I make it stop?'

In my stupor and alarm, I dumped the ash tray, I was frantically pushing empty beer cans and half eaten twinkees off the tables, trying desperately to isolate its origin - then the dog started howling...

It was all very disturbing.

But RW, he's solid gold baby. Dude's voice could melt butter.

OPEN 40

That is one of the main reasons Abby Southerlands dad picked it.
Any idea where Abby's Open 40 is now? It was being tracked for a while on her web site but then no more. Should have been near Australia several months ago unless it sank.

I got wondering about just that thing yesterday. I did quite a bit of searching, but couldn't find any recent info.

They removed the tracker map from her website many months back, I also tried to find information on other sites, but no luck. Was hoping an Aussie might find her drifting into Perth. Maybe she went south and is in the Southern Ocean. Was curious if the battery on the transponder go dead or did the boat sink. Maybe she will show up in a few years, like the fishing boat crossing the Atlantic.

You know, in reflecting on your post and your icon - I now believe I owe you a clear apology.

I actually have absolutely no problem with Roger Whittaker, none, any. I may not own his albums, but that notwithstanding.

If you sound like him, then you too have a beautiful voice.

I came to Sailnet for information as I'm in the market for a boat, and have some free time for research; I found it entertaining and fun as a benefit.

I have to be honest and tell you, that when I first came on Sailnet a month or so back - it absolutely, positively, NEVER entered my mind that I would or could ever possibly offend anyone with light banter on such issues as 'Roger Whittaker' or 'Zombie Attacks'. Never. Never. Never.

Even now I'm mystified.

That being said, it's not funny if someone gets their feeling hurt, and if I'm responsible, then I'm sorry. Will not happen again.

Again, my apologies to you, and anyone else I may have offended.
