Selling with dealer or broker??

I am planning to sell my 3 year old boat and am switching to a boat where I am unable to trade in. The question is - is it better to use the original dealer as the broker given that people looking for this brand of boat are most likely to go to the dealer or is it better to use an independant broker who does not have the confict between trying to sell a new boat where he may make a little more money vs selling the used one where the customer gets a cheaper boat but the dealer may make a little less?

I don''t think that there is a fixed rule on this. I have usually tried to use brokers who seem to move a lot of boats whether or not they are dealers for my brand or not. Then again, I can''t say that I have ever owned a big name brand boat with a local dealer.

Henry,

In my very limited experience, dealers of new boats have tried just as hard to sell their brand''s old boats. This may be because they love the boats, or are committed to the brand, or because they are consciously trying to keep resale good as a selling point for the brand.
