Pocket Cruisers and Trailer Sailers

Would love to hear from you guys. Were have you sailed and been? After much preparation, many repairs and upgrades. Ive decided to take my trailerable swing keel RL24 on the Oriental to Ocracoke trip. How many out there have made the crossing from Miami to the Bahamas in a small boat? Just curious and would love to hear more small boat story's.

My boat, KIVALO, is a 2003 Hunter 260. I have taken her several different places since I bought her. I have spent a month cruising the southern shore of Lake Ontario as well as the 1000 Islands and the following summer I spent time on Lake Mich. Watched the start of the Chi-Mack and spent a week in Chicago with friends. The sailed to Holland to visit the same friends at one's Aunt's house. Then cruised to Grand Traverse Bay. Had a blast!!! Also have done some long weekends on Lake George in NYS. I always wanted to trailer it down to Florida for a week or so while my mom wintered there but financial concerns sidelined that idea. It's also limited my extended cruising but I still sail her on Owasco Lake in NY all summer.

It's not the trip you were talking about but it should illustrate how versatile trailer sailors can be. Try a google search because I know there is a fairly large group that sails from Fla to the Bahamas, I just cant remember their name. Go and have fun, man!

Been some years back, but I used to own a San Juan 23 that I sailed mostly around Tampa Bay and the Keys. It was great, though rather cramped, for that use.

Took it across to the Bahamas once. You have to be willing to wait for just the right weather window both going and coming. It's not something that you should try if you are on a schedule.

We sailed our Chrysler 26 all around the area you are now including the Ocracoke area( watch the dephts when you start seeing land. We have also sailed the 26 to Miami down the ICW with no problem. I think after you sail the Pamlico area awhile you will feel comfortable to sail anywhere. Check out sailFar.net for small boat sailing
