This is Youth and Ambition Part 2 - Key Biscayne, Florida to Chub Cay, Bahamas

1:00 p.m.
We just pulled into No Name Harbor, south of Miami at 12:51 p.m., and actually had the wrong waypoint plugged in - the harbor was located before our actual destination. We had the same confusion about the sandbars coming into Key Biscayne around the lighthouse. Jake figured it out and did a great job navigating through the channel... Guys - very cool series!

Some feedback on the video purely as a veiwer (take it for what it's worth). Jjablo is right about the steadicam thing. But I don't think it's as much about the shots being shaky and hand-held as much as not holding a good shot long enough. You cut together a whole series of things that looked interesting, but the camera swung away too quickly and you were off to the next thing. Hold your shots longer - you can always edit them into tight pieces for the energy - but then you still have something to use when you need it. And keep the editing in mind as you're shooting - like a director would do.

On your VO (voice over) - get some energy in your voice. It sounds like you're reading your homework. Heh-heh. You guys are out living the dream! Your videos need to show that. You'll feel like a dork when you first start reading "happy" - but it'll give a much better spark to the piece.

Finally, show more about your life on the boat. The scenery is awesome and the surfing scenes were great - but what's it really like living down below? What do you eat? Where do you store everything? What's it like at 3 am when you're completely exhausted? How bored do you get? When is it scary?

Show the good and the bad. Tell the whole story. If you want this to be TV, make it TV quality. Here's another dude that has done some great work (Drake Paragon). Check his stuff here:

He might even give you guys some tips.

Thank you for the feedback!! This was filmed 2 years ago. Since then we have sharpened our skills in filming and editing... this was all a experiment. Since this series we have done a second trip which we are editing know. So we will definitely use some of your tips that you have given us. Thanks again. PS That is the reason we named it Youth and Ambition. We've got a lot to learn!

Would also agree with the above. The shots felt very ADD. It takes a little time as a viewer to "adjust" to a new scene and take it in.

Maybe show less "walking to here, walking to there" and more "wow, look at this place, it's f'ing amazing". Is the story about walking around a lot? If not, don't bother showing it. Is the story about amazing places and using the boat to get there? Then show that.

I'd also love to see more of life aboard and down below. In what ways are the mundane everyday things not so mundane anymore? Anyone get sick on the crossing? If so, take the camera, get in his face and do a "Bob, how ya feeling man?" You make meals down below or have to prep them all? How was the lack of sleep messing with you?

No auto pitot definitely gets tiring. The compass has a way to put you to sleep and the wave have a way to keep you a wake. But mostly day trip so we were fine. We prepped food down below.
Thanks!!:)
