OK you asked for it..

This is probably what it looked like in Barbuda today, deserted beaches and somewhere around 85F:

And IF you were sailing between Barbuda and Antigua in an unusually light period of the trades it might look like this today (although it's probably a bit rougher than this shot)

JimMcGee, Silvio and you and me like this.

I scratch-build model sailing ships in the winter. It's sort of like meditating on sailing.

Rick,
If you haven't already bought the veneer try Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford PA Hearne Hardwoods

Much cheaper than Woodcraft and a much larger selection.

Make sure you take a few treats for Smokey their black lab.

Winter is for cross country skiing, no fees, no lift ticket, just skiing.

My daughter and niece on frozen Lake Jean in Pennsylvania last month.

Last winter skiing was closer to home, on trails in my neighborhood, but not enough snow this year.

Actually I know lots of skiers that are just as passionate about the sport as sailors. People quit their jobs, sell their houses, and move to the mountains because of their love of the sport. And its surprising how many sailors alos ski. Something about being in the outdoors, etc. If for some reason I would have to chose between the two, it would be very difficult to pick one.

Find a small boat and go sailing. This winter has been lovely, I must have sailed five times since Thanksgiving, maybe more. My boat is big and comfy, but I've sailed a dory, a duckboat, a dinghy, even a canoe in winter. Just be careful!

My problem is I can't afford TWO expensive hobbies....
In January I always try to do my own iron man competition. Golfing in the morning, Sailing in the afternoon followed by night skiing at one of the local hills.
