There's no "wrong" boat just the one you traded for the one you now have, Happy Sailing!!

I bought my boat from the Nautical Donations guys. They have their boats at Crowley's in Chicago. I got a good deal on a boat that had everything needed to sail, but, will need a lot replaced in the future. Nice guys to deal with (both Nautical Donations and Crowley's)

I too had good luck dealing with Nautical Donations and Crowley's in Chicago. They went out of their way to honestly describe the conditions of their boats and to arrange viewing. They had several Cattalina 27s I was looking at befor I fell for a 26' Paceship from a charity auction in New London WI.. Keep looking, soon a boot will speak to you and you will know its the right one. Internet shopping is fine but nothing beats looking in person. Good luck Richard

Re: Considering a Hunter 27 as a first boat on Lake Michigan

Our first boat was a '98 Hunter 240 that we sailed on Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan. It was in decent enough shape and a great boat to learn on. We did end up out-growing it after 2 years though and were able to sell it to a guy in Montana (?). It wasn't a bad boat, but my two dislikes, for that model at least, was that it didn't have a head (we used a port-a-potty up by the v-berth, and no standing headroom in the cabin.
