thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately I won't be able to report on what works until the first week of May - currently on the hard and launch is April 28! On the plus side it makes it easier to muck around with the mast when it is horizontal and 2 1/2 feet off the ground. Not a big fan of heights....

Release the outhaul. Tension on the outhaul can increase the load on the lower slugs.
