This is one of the worst days of my life. At about 7:00 this morning I received a phone call telling me that our boat was on fire. I was about a 30 minute drive away and by the time we got back home the boat had burnt to the waterline and sank. We have been staying in the guest cottage for a few weeks so we and our dogs were not aboard at the time. We have lost everything we own. That is not the problem although some things cannot be replaced; my wife was doing her family tree and had her grandmother’s family bible, and pictures of our past, ECT… This boat was our dreams and goals for the past 8 years. It was our magic carpet to all the places we wanted to visit. Our little joke between us was that if “the man” pissed us off, we could be in the Bahamas in two weeks. The shock of it all is just unbelievable.

This is quite sad and my sincerest sympathies go out to you... it is little consolation at the moment as I am sure it is painful to lose a boat like that but as Mikel 1 said.... it's good no one was hurt...

My heart sank. Thank god this happened at the dock with no one aboard. Boats are replaceable. Loved ones are not.

Sorry for your loss. Come back strong though.

Re: Lagoon 37 Burned

I'm speechless at their loss....

I've never had a total loss like that, but I have come upon massive damage (that everyone said was terminal) on the liveaboard boat that I loved. It's a deeply sickening feeling.

I don't know the cause of their fire but I know where some of my boat's weaknesses are. I'm going to install battery post fuses this weekend if I can get a hold of them. As soon as possible if I can't get them by the weekend. I can't believe I have sailed and lived aboard for so long without the main battery cables being fused before the main panel....
