The day has finally come!

So after many months of sailing as a hand on OPBs, reading more books than I thought existed on sailing, spending way more money than I expected and three sea trials, the time has come. The boat name has been filled in on page 1 of the log book, and Chapter 1 has come to a close.

Tonight I hand over the final payment on my new-to-me Coronado 25. Tomorrow morning in the darkness I'll be stepping on board with her new log, and at sunrise we sail out of Boot Key Harbor, and start our adventures aboard her.

This will be a trial by fire, as winds are expected to be 15 - 18 knots all day long, and we have 40 miles to sail to get her to her new home. Rigging is all inspected, spare rigging and lines ready to go, and a shiny new motor, just in case.

I want to thank all of you for being so supportive over the past 18 months while I went from "gee I think I might want to go sailing" to "I think someday we will sail around the world." Invaluable advice, thoughtful anecdotes, stern words of caution and plenty of encouragement all abound here.

All of you will be on board with me in spirit tomorrow. Thank you for everything. I'll report back on Monday!

Here's to chapter 2!

Exciting isn't it?

Going out under the bridge or through Sisters Creek? If you go out the creek, keep an eye out for crab pots, I picked up one on my rudder when I went out that way.

Re: The day has finally come!

Thank you and yes it's very exciting!

We are fueling up on the West end of the harbor, but I think we will double back and go out through the creek, as I think it will still be faster than sailing around Boot Key, especially with the prevailing East wind. I didn't see any pots in the creek before, but plenty once we were out. The Admiral will be on Pot Watch until we get into deeper water. Thanks for the reminder!

Re: The day has finally come!

Yeah, it's after leaving the creek that you have to be careful.

Oh, and if things get dicey, there's free mooring balls on the west side of Indian Key.

Have a bail out stop, 40 miles is a long way.

If I was doing 40 miles in a 25 footer I would be leaving at daybreak.
