SailNet Rendezvous - Martha's Vineyard July 13-15

An idea - Over the years I've seen a number of "meet up" ideas in various harbors, tied to boatshows, maritime events, holidays, etc. There is a charitable program on Martha's Vineyard - Sail Martha's Vineyard a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and protecting the island's maritime heritage - that provides funding, equipment and instruction to the local youth to get them familiar with sailing and the nautical heritage of the island. It was started when the founder graduated from MV High School and realized he was the only one in his graduating class who had ever sailed. I have participated in and supported this program for about 8 years.

Anyway, there is a regatta/harbor-side fair/concert program on the weekend of 13-15 July to benefit this charity. I think it would be a great opportunity for SailNet'ers in New England to work a meet-up into summer sailing plans - lots of shoreside activity, a regatta for those who chose to play about on a 4 hour course (I do it as a sailing picnic,) - it's a "fun and affordable" event with all classes and types of boats - classic to everyday to go-fast - and decent, low key people. The regatta info is Vineyard Cup Sailing Regatta to benefit Sail Martha's Vineyard | Great Sailing, Serious Fun!

If anyone would like to join in this, I'd be happy to organize and would love the opportunity to put names, faces and boats together with the comments and information I've been following through SailNet since 2004. Please PM if it's of interest - I have the technology to find sufficient wine and beer for a bunch of us!

Hmmm...Sent the event to the wife...I think it will be a nice trip for us that weekend...I think we will be there, of course pending weather...Even if the rendezvous does not happen...

Great idea. Will turn to the calendar and see if we can get over there that weekend. Sail out of New Bedford and find myself in Vineyard Haven most often.

Re: SailNet Rendezvous - Martha's Vineyard July 13-15

For those of you who have expressed interest in a rendezvous in Martha's Vineyard on 13-15 July; there is more information about the SailMV weekend at Martha's Vineyard Sailing Regatta to Benefit Sail Martha's Vineyard | Great Sailing! Serious Fun! | Vineyard Cup and on Facebook at vineyard cup 2012 and twitter @vineyardcup2012 (I can't vouch for twitter as I'm a luddite.)

From what I'm reading, a couple of good sailing events for participation or for spectator fleet - good food, music and sailing/cruising talk - all of this in Vineyard Haven. Additionally, apparently SailMV can get moorings if you participate in some of the stuff and notify them in advance.

There's a chance I can make it. I'll have to wait until we get closer to the date to know what my schedule looks like.
