American Mariner 27 Shoal Draft Info Needed.

I'm looking at an American Mariner 27 and wonder what the pros and cons are. I've been searching for hours here and the web but can't find much helpful info on the characteristics of the boat.

Problem areas?

Will I hate the shoal draft? Too tender? Sail like crap to windward? Are all shoal drafts created equal?

Is it safe enough for a newb like me to sail the Puget Sound?

Re: American Mariner 27 Shoal Draft Info Needed.

I'm new to sailing but know when i'm having fun. The boat is tender, and very easy to sail. To windward we do well on a port tack, and not starboard. i'm attriuting this to it needing the rigging tuned up. Has good space in the V berth, ok size galley. All told we're quite happy with it and will be sailing actively/"camping" in the CA Delta all summer. THe only thing I really don't like is the 'traveler' is on a yoke and as such can't sheet in the main as much as i'd like. Anybody out there convert this?
